White Deer Plain

Set in the White Deer Village in Shaanxi Province at which their sons -- and the two important families -- Bai and Lu have lived together in peace. But the turmoil contributes to a fierce struggle for property ownership. A young woman not used to the village soon finds herself trapped between the two camps. Director Liu Jin employs the story of these two families as a metaphor for the fate of the Chinese people since first Chinese war lords are overwhelmed by Japanese invaders, subsequently civil war follows hot on the heels of this Second World War and finally the victorious Maoists start planting their red flags. Chen Zhong Shi bases off the drama the publication.
