Twin Spica
Twin Spica is actually a seinen manga series written and illustrated by Kou Yaginuma. Even the"realistic, slice-of-life science fiction series" tells the story of a band of Japanese high school students training to become astronauts from early 21st century after the nation's first human space flight launch finishes in a tragedy that triggers most civilian casualties. It was serialized in the seinen manga magazine Comic Flapper from September 2001 to August 2009 and was later printed in 16 tank?bon volumes by Media Factory from January 2002 to October 2009.
The series is named after Spica, a binary star system and also the brightest star in the constellation Virgo. In the manga, Yaginuma includes references to events regarding literary works like the publication Night on the Galactic Railroad of Kenji Miyazawa in addition to the growth of human space flight. American publishing company Vertical announced acquisition of the license for translation of this manga in September 2009 at the New York Anime Festival, and also the interpreted first volume was released in May 2010. The series has been clarified by Vertical marketing director Ed Chavez because"technically sound" and"heartfelt" during its initial appraisal.
