The Wombles

The Wombles is a stop motion animated British television series produced in 1973--1975. The BBC commissioned manufacturer FilmFair to produce a television set of their novels, after the Wombles publication, published in 1968, was featured on the BBC children's television program Jackanory. The show was created by Graham Clutterbuck and directed by Ivor Wood with stop motion. Actor Bernard Cribbins expressed the characters. Model manufacturing and sets were Barry Leith. Two string of 30 five second episodes are made, with the next in 1975, revived by Ivor Wood, and also the very first show broadcasting in 1973, revived by Barry Leith. In all episodes are made. The original television series was screened for years. Once the company Cinar Movies acquired FilmFair in 1996, a set of episodes was created, with a number of new Womble characters. In the UK, the show was bought by ITV.
