Reading Rainbow
Reading Rainbow had been a children's television series that aired on PBS until November 10, 2006, that encouraged reading by children, from June 6, 1983.
The general public television series garnered more than 200 broadcast awards, including a Peabody Award and 26 Emmy Awards, 11 that were from the"Outstanding Children's Series" category. The series Was Made at Lancit Media Productions at the Big Apple, under the leadership of Larry Lancit and Cecily Truett Lancit. The Notion of a reading series for kids originated with Twila Liggett, Ph.D., and Paul Schupbach, of the Great Plains National Instructional Television Library at the University of Nebraska--Lincoln. Ny, and Tony Buttino, of WNED-TV Buffalo. The first team comprised host LeVar Burton, Ellen Schecter, and Lynne Brenner Ganek.
Each episode centered from a book, or kids' literature, that was researched through several stories or sections. The series also recommended books to look for when they moved to the library. It's the third-longest running kids' series in PBS history, after Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and Sesame Street. It was also one of the PBS shows to be broadcast in stereo.
