Not the Nine O'Clock News is actually a tv comedy sketch series which was broadcast on BBC2. Shown on BBC1 to the Nine O'Clock News as a comedy option, it featured satirical sketches on current news reports and culture, as well as parody songs, comedy sketches, videos that were re-edited, along with television formats that were spoof. The series featured Griff Rhys Jones, Pamela Stephenson, Mel Smith, and Rowan Atkinson, as well as Chris Langham at the series. The arrangement was a departure from the Monty Python's Flying Circus streamofconsciousness meta-comedy, returning to a sketch series arrangement that is traditional. Sketches had a level of naturalism in operation and often had been, lasting from a few seconds. The series launched the careers of several high-profile actors and writers, and also led to additional comedy series including Blackadder, Mr. Bean, and Alas Smith and Jones.
