Live from Lincoln Center

Live From Lincoln Center is a ongoing series of musical performances Created by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Combination. A series of concerts, ballets, operas, and recitals telecast, as the name says, live from Lincoln Center, it was created and developed by Executive Producer John Goberman and started January 30, 1976 having a concert comprising André Previn and Van Cliburn. It is aired by PBS stations nationwide periodically rather than on a normal program. It has introduced historic performances by such artists like Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Itzhak Perlman, Isaac Stern, Sir James Galway, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Beverly Sills, Joan Sutherland, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Audra McDonald, the New York City Ballet, the Mark Morris Dance Group, the American Ballet Theatre, the New York Philharmonic, and the New York City Opera to millions of home audiences. It has won thirteen Emmy Awards and fifty-three Emmy Award nominations, in addition to 2 George Foster Peabody awards. Two recordings produced from concerts presented on the series have won Grammy awards. Announcer Martin Bookspan was until his 2006 retirementwhen Fred Child occurred over. With the longest staying several characters, one of them Canadian broadcaster Patrick Watson, Hugh Downs, Sam Waterston, Garrick Utley, Dick Cavett, along with Beverly Sills, have functioned as sponsor for the series. Ms. Sills has been the host from 2000 until two months before her passing in 2007. In recent years artists like Alan Alda, Alec Baldwin, Lesley Stahl have filled that the sponsor position. Kirk Browning from its inception in 1976 principally led the app until 2008. Since 2008 Alan Skog was manager.
