Edgar Wallace Mysteries

The Edgar Wallace Mysteries was a British film series. There were 4 6 films in the string, made between 1965 and 1960. The pictures were loose adaptations of stories and Edgar Wallace's books. Few used his titles, also there wasn't any attempt setting them from the period in which Wallace composed, probably to obviate the need for collections and costumes. A 1962 article in Scene magazine quotes 22,000 as the budget for an episode in production. Most of the show featured a uniform name sequence, in which a shadowed bust of Edgar Wallace revolves slowly against a backdrop of swirling mist, to the accompaniment of this"Man of Mystery" theme written by Michael Carr. "Man of Mystery" was later recorded by The Shadows and became a no. 5 struck record in the united kingdom. The show has achieved lasting fame. In Britain it had been seen on Bravo, Channel 4 and also ITV at times from the late Sixties to the Nineties. It was shown on U.S. tv while the Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre, together with episodes cut to match hourlong business TV slots. In July 2012 Network DVD began to produce the show on DVD, uncut and presented in its original theater aspect ratio.
