A Ghost Story for Christmas can be actually really just a strand of annual British tv films originally broadcast on BBC One and afterwards restored on BBC Four in 2005. With just one exception, Lawrence Gordon Clark directs the instalments and the pictures are shot on 16 millimeter colour film. The remit behind the series was to provide a tv adaptation of a traditional ghost story referencing the tradition of telling tales that are unnatural . Each instalment can be a separate adaptation of a story that is brief, ranging comprising wellknown British celebrities like Denholm Elliott, Robert Hardy, Peter Vaughan, Edward Petherbridge and Clive Swift . The first five are adaptations of ghost stories by M. R. James, the sixth is based on a short story by Charles Dickens and the 2 final instalments are original screenplays from Clive Exton and John Bowen respectively. A previous black and white 1968 Omnibus adaptation of M.R. James's Whistle and I'll Come to You, led by Jonathan Miller, is often cited as a direct influence upon the creation of those films, and can be within the canon. BBC Four in 2005 restored the series with a collection of adaptations that were annual.
