A Sichuan Opera troupe that resides and performs in a run down theatre in the outskirts of Chengdu is managed by zhao Li. She averts the headlines headlines, fearing this could spell their end If she receives an arrangement of demolition. Secretly, she wouldn't mind since their lifetime is now harder over time quitting. But what else can she do? She worries her niece dan-dan, their star, will render them for a future in the city. To continue to keep her troupe"family" together, Zhao Li begins a search to get a new theatre to allow them to sing and live in. As she fights with bureaucracy, the characters from the opera world which she uses to escape her issues begin to float in to her real life...
