The Holy Mountain

A master contributes disciples along with a Christ figure to a mountain of shrewd men. The scandal of this 1973 Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Alejandro Jodorowsky's flooding of vision and existential tradition from The Holy Mountain is really a spiritual quest for enlightenment pitting illusion against truth. The Alchemist (Jodorowsky) assembles together a set of folks from all walks of life to represent the planets in the solar system. The intention of the occult adept is to place his recruits before embarking on a trip to Lotus 29, and divest them of these baggage. There they ascend the Holy Mountain to restore.
